PAX East 2012 Panel Audio: How NOT to Succeed As a Freelance Game Journalist

Earlier this month I spoke on two panels at PAX East 2012.  The first panel, “How Not to Succeed As a Freelance Game Journalist,” was an absolute blast and put me on in the humbling presence of my own editor at the Escapist, Susan Arendt (whose blog you should be reading), along with a panel of luminaries from the breadth of games journalism.  I had fun and learned a lot, with the primary lesson being that I need to talk a lot louder and closer to the microphone.

Can you follow up with an editor after a rejection?  Are typos really a pitch killer?  Why shouldn’t you tell an editor you “creamed your jeans” over the new Transformers cartoon? (Please don’t cream your jeans over the new Transformers cartoon.  Or if you do, keep it to yourself.)  Find out these questions and more below!

And if anyone reading this is trying to get into games journalism and has a question for me–don’t be shy!  Feel free to grill me in the comments.
